Hi, I’m Ben
The outdoors has always been a big part of my life — some of my earliest memories are of helping out in the garden with my family. That early love for nature led me to study ecology at university, originally hoping to become a park ranger. But somewhere along the way, I found myself drawn to horticulture, and it just clicked.
I’ve now been working in horticulture for over 15 years, gaining experience across a wide range of gardens, clients, and landscapes. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work and volunteer in some truly special gardens, including Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in garden care and management.
I went on to gain my RHS qualifications and train in garden design, which helped me start building a small round of clients — and from there, things just grew.
A few years back, I met Kerry, and we began working together on some smaller garden projects. We quickly realised we shared the same passion, work ethic, and vision for creating beautiful, well-cared-for spaces. It all grew naturally from there, and now we’re lucky to run a thriving business with a fantastic team who share our love for gardens and the outdoors.
For me, it’s all about helping people enjoy their outdoor spaces — whether that’s through planting, design, or just good, honest garden care.

Meet Kerry – Co-Founder of Ben and Kerry’s Gardens LTD
Hi, I’m Kerry. I moved to the beautiful county of Cumbria over a decade ago, bringing with me a background as a trainer and assessor in Soft Facilities for colleges across the UK. But it was my lifelong love of nature and green spaces that eventually led me to pursue a new path—horticulture.
I retrained at inspiring locations including Holehird Gardens, Newton Rigg College, and Lowther Castle, where I earned RHS Levels 2 and 3 along with qualifications in Garden Design. As I began working with my own clients, I joined Ben and his small team of gardeners—and that’s where the roots of Ben and Kerry’s Gardens began to grow.
With my degree in Art and Design and experience in education, and Ben’s background in Ecology and over 15 years of hands-on gardening expertise, we quickly discovered a shared passion for creating beautiful, sustainable outdoor spaces. Our complementary skills and creative vision made launching
our own venture a natural next step.
Today, Ben and Kerry’s Gardens is all about thoughtful design, ecological awareness, and bringing joy to the landscapes we create. We’re proud to turn gardens into spaces that feel as good as they look.

Meet Oli – Gardener at Ben and Kerry’s Gardens LTD
Hi, I’m Oli – merci for stopping by! I began my gardening journey in Berkshire and recently completed a Diploma in Horticulture at the beautiful Lowther Castle. I have a particular passion for topiary, wildlife-friendly planting, and the timeless charm of cottage gardens.
For nearly three years, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Ben and Kerry, helping to design and maintain beautiful gardens across the Three Counties. It’s been incredibly rewarding to contribute to spaces that nurture both people and nature.
Alongside my horticultural work, I’ve recently completed an MA in Creative Writing. I love connecting with local people and hearing their stories—there’s something magical about the way gardens and words both grow and evolve with care. Looking ahead, I’d love to combine these two passions and explore opportunities in horticultural writing alongside my hands-on work in the garden.

Meet Charlie– Garden Team Leader at Ben and Kerry’s Gardens LTD
I’m a passionate and knowledgeable gardener with an RHS Level 2 qualification and a degree in Conservation Biology and Ecology. With over five years of hands-on experience, I take an environmentally conscious approach to my work, drawing inspiration from eco-friendly gardening practices and permaculture principles.
I currently manage a small portfolio of personal clients and am looking to expand into wildlife-friendly garden design—creating outdoor spaces that are not only beautiful but also support biodiversity and sustainability.
Outside of gardening, I’m an avid reader and nature enthusiast who loves walking, swimming, and spending time immersed in the natural world.

Richard
With two decades of DJing on the Leeds alternative music scene and eight years co-running his own nightclub, Rich brings creativity and drive to everything he does. He holds a First-Class Honours degree in Music Production from Manchester Met, and after moving from the bustle of the city to the wilds of North Yorkshire, his passion for electronic music remains as strong as ever. A lover of the outdoors, Rich spent several years working in a garden nursery and takes real satisfaction in seeing garden projects come to life, especially under the sun. As one of our team leaders, he is invaluable in keeping projects on track, and ensuring every job is completed to the highest standard.

Richard
Hi, I’m Rachel. I’ve been part of the Ben and Kerry’s Gardens team for over a year now, and I absolutely love what I do. After working as a veterinary nurse, I decided to make a change and pursue gardening full time—a decision that suits me perfectly, as I’ve always felt happiest outdoors.
I’m currently working toward an RHS qualification to deepen my horticultural knowledge and build on the skills I’ve developed through hands-on experience. I also hold a degree in Ecology from Liverpool John Moores University, which has given me a strong foundation in understanding the natural world and how to work with it—rather than against it.
Outside of work, I enjoy running with my dog, taking invigorating dips through cold water swimming, and spending quality time with my husband and our little girl.

Meg

Bill
Bill has been a valued part of Ben and Kerry’s Gardens for many years, joining the team not long after it all began. With a professional background in social care, Bill brings a thoughtful and compassionate approach to his work — helping some of our more vulnerable clients feel comfortable, respected, and at ease.
He takes real pride in the customer-focused side of gardening and is always happy to take the time to build positive, trusting relationships. Alongside his people skills, Bill also has solid experience in managing fruit and vegetable gardens. Having previously worked with Growing with Grace, he understands both the practical side of growing and the importance of working closely with each client’s individual needs.
When he’s not tending to gardens, Bill can often be found exploring the caves of the Yorkshire Dales — he’s a keen potholer and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, above or below ground!

Beth
Hi I’m Beth
I’m a project Manager, writer and photographer who loves to travel and spend time outdoors. I recently spent 2 years in New Zealand working on reforestation projects around Queenstown, where I planted over 6000 trees and assisted with landscaping and planting restaurant quality market gardens. After moving back to Cumbria, I joined Ben and Kerry’s and feel incredibly lucky to be working with such a great team of experienced gardeners. I’m really enjoying the challenge of expanding my horticultural knowledge, gaining experience in landscaping, planting, pruning and garden design, all while working across such a varied portfolio of gardens and meeting our wonderful clients.

Angus
Hi, I’m Angus. I joined the team in 2022 while studying at Keele University, and recently graduated with a BSc in Geography. I’m really enjoying being part of the team as I explore where my academic background and hands-on experience in gardening might lead me next.
Gardening has been a passion of mine—I’ve always loved being outdoors and watching how landscapes evolve through the seasons. Beyond work, I’m a keen team sports player and currently play both cricket and rugby for my hometown clubs.

Andy
Andy has a passion for wildlife friendly gardens and a special interest in wildflowers. His love for the land has led him to gain qualifications in scything which he puts to the test in the garden meadows belonging to some of our clients. Aside from gardening, Andy is a practising councillor and uses his skillset in everything that he does, from listening to clients needs, to helping work as a team.

Monty
Monty moved to the Lake District in 2019 to be closer to the mountains and the landscapes that inspire him. Happiest outdoors in all weathers, he thrives on a good day of physical work and never shies away from a challenge, especially when power tools are involved. With extensive experience and licenses for chainsaw operation, Monty is skilled in carrying out a wide range of arboricultural tasks. His dedication, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm for working with the land make him an invaluable member of the team, ensuring that every project is approached with energy and care.
